This morning, just as the sun was coming up pink and golden on the horizon, I took my coffee out into the garden for a "walk about". For me it is a kind of meditation to check all the little plants and critters, pick a few weeds, smell the butterfly ginger in my neighbors yard and listen to the sounds of silent morning.
I saw in front of me two enormous webs, seemingly suspended in the air without any connection to the rest of the yard. They were "hovering" and the webs were parallel to one another as if built by friends who wanted to live close to one another. Like my close friend and neighbor Mary who took this photo.
The webs were covered with crystal dewdrops and looked like some fantasy world of Narnia. I know what happens to most of these little creatures in my neighborhood - they are destroyed as ugly and disgusting but I think this banana spider is beautiful. Where did she get that amazing outfit? She catches and nibbles on the little winged things that annoy me in the garden and feeds her babies and minds her own business.
My garden is filled with interesting characters because I don't use chemicals to kill them and the other things who live here like the butterflies and hummingbirds and snakes. We have found a way to peacefully co-exist, like the side-by-side webs in the pink morning sunrise.
