Welcome to my website.
I wanted to use the beautiful bamboo as a metaphor on my website. To me it is visually beautiful and spiritually peaceful. A zen-like image. I hope that when you contemplate, it will bring you to a quiet, hopeful place. The bamboo is strong and enduring - you cannot destroy it. In Asia I saw scaffolding of bamboo which reached to spine tingling heights. It supported laborers and their materials as skyscrapers were built. In addition to its strength, it has a soft stillness like the whisper of the wind to remind you that nature all around you endures.
I chose "Schummwords" as a way to play with my last name - Schumm. I learned to make it fun after I heard other people mess it up. I knew I needed to laugh rather than bristle. I used the play on words when our kids when to camp. I made denim pouches with drawstrings for their toothbrushes and toothpaste. On the pouches I painted (as any good crafty mom will do) "Schumm One Special" The children hated it - they were embarrassed. Words: they are very powerful.
Each week I will pick a favorite word and talk about what makes it special. As an author, words are critical to communicating. Sometimes an amazing word may have an equally painful meaning. I may use a word which takes you in a different direction than I wish to take you. How do words inspire you, how do they make you weep and how do they make you laugh? Why are they important?
Welcome. Stay a while.
